FINAL ROUGH Cut

...

...
Things I have done since the last rough cut:
Idents:
1. I put diegetic sound over the second film ident.
2. I made the second film ident fade to red instead of just being red the entire time.

Rape Chase Scene:
1. I faded in the diegetic sounds of the female rape victim's breathing over the third ident, not just having the sounds at full level immediately. I played with non-diegetic music audio levels too to make the diegetic heartbeat sound stand out.

Greenscreen Abduction Scene:
1. I continued the screaming over the black intertitles, and faded up the screaming. I also changed the pitch and tone of this scream to make it sound like a different girl victim to the first.
2. I used a different sound to the same metallic/electrical sound on the shots of the bag being put over the head. I realised I needed something better for both the shots of the bag being put over the head. I also added a sounds that make a real audio punch, to go with the transition between the abduction scene and the lair scene.
3. I added more titles into the first scene such as casting by, music by, written by.
4. I faded the non-diegetic music up in the second scene (greenscreen abduction scene) to build up scare so that there is a jump in audio when it finally comes on.
6. I dropped the 2 shots in the rape chase scene showing the victim girl well in the distance.
7. At 0:57 I realised that the sound FX before was too metallic.
8. At 1:51 I took away a tiny moaning sound over one of the key framed tied-up takes.
9. At 1:22 I changed the cross-fade to a fade to-in from black to denote ellipsis and I carried over the busy studio sound (reduced audio obviously) as ambient sound.

Lair Scene:
1. I re-recorded and added better diegetic sounds of Alex gagging and moaning continuously throughout the lair scene.
2. I changed the loud scream at the very end of the film opening by re-recording it because I realised it might have not been the most convincing scream ever.
3. I added a secondary music element as the killer goes down stairs. This secondary music I added was long bass notes, plucked strings, irregular fast notes, long drawn out notes and fast notes.
4. At the start of the lair scene I added more tied-up shots of Alex cross-cut in between the shots of the female killer walking down the stairs. With those shots, I added much better diegetic sound which is distantly audible as the female killer goes down stairs - it was very low and muffled, but there; it gets louder as she nears.
5. I added a musical emphasis on the shot of the candles on floor because it gets extra creepy at this point. The following shots all ramp up the horror so I also needed non-diegetic music to make it extra creepy.
6. I decided to bring in the diegetic heartbeat sound later, when the cross-cutting starts at the end when the female killer is walking towards the victim.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK 1: Rough Cut 5

...
The feedback my mum gave in this video was:
1. That she doesn't like Simon going through so many doors at the green screen place, she finds it unnecessary and boring. She asks "What does it add to have those shots of him travelling through the doors?"
2. She thinks the middle scene is unfinished.
3. She doesn't understand the jump from the rape chase scene to the fake film scene. She thinks "Why are we in a studio?"
4. She doesn't get the little signifier that he is an alcoholic and regrets the rape- didn't connect or see that it was related to remorse or guilt from rape, she put it down to just teenage drinking.
5. Thinks he should be more jumpy and scared, he's walking too confidently.

The good things about it:
1. The scene cuts away just when the graphic details are about to be shown (the rape scene), that I cut to a title at the right moment.
2. The rape chase scene has more impact and effect with better, more realistic breathing.
3. The lair scene came together very well, she really got the atmosphere. Also, the sounds and miss-en-scene is very scary.
4. The start and end scene are very powerful.
5. She likes how simon is jumpy when he hears the killer running behind him.
6. She thinks its nice/good to have a break between two violent, horrible action filled scenes (talking about the middle scene)
7. The whole thing is scary.

OVERALL
Much improved from the last cut.

ROUGH Cut 4

...

...
Things I have done since the last rough cut:
  1. Added diegetic sounds of Richard heavily breathing.
  2. Added diegetic sounds of me heavily breathing.
  3. Added/Re-edited some of the shots in the rape chase scene so that you see more shots of Richard and Alex running in between the shots of me running to create more suspense and action. It makes more sense now to the audience where Richard and Alex are compared to me. There is more continuity and flow now.
  4. Shortened the diegetic sounds and shots of Alex tied up in the lair to make them come on show quicker to create and build the scare and tension better.
  5. Changed the font and colour of "Three years later" title to white.
  6. Added a fade in on the first shot that comes after the title "Three years later".
  7. Added a quick flash spin effect on all the shots of Alex tied up in the lair.
  8. Fixed the diegetic high heels sounds of when the killer walks down the stairs. I re-recorded the sounds of the high heels coming down the stairs to make it sound more realistic.

Evidence Of DIRECTING

While filming the 'greenscreen abduction' scene:
...

...
Here I came in the shot to direct these actors on what to do for this greenscreen scene (the second scene in my film opening). I was telling these actors to applaud really happily and loudly when the director says "that's a wrap" as if everyone is celebrating that they have finally finished filming a scene.

While filming the 'rape chase' scene:

...
Here I was directing these two actors on what to do for a certain shot of the rape chase scene. The actors asked me questions on what they should do and how they should wear their clothes.

PRODUCTION SCHEDULE: Update 2

...

...
I found out that the cast for the party scene in my film opening could not make it for the date I set to film it on (Saturday 28th of January). So, I told Mr Burrowes this on Monday 30th of January and he said I could try and film a scene replacing this party scene on the green screen trip the next day (Tuesday 31st of January). This meant I had to think of a whole new other idea (that took advantage of the green screen studio) overnight, meaning I had to do some quick creative thinking.

So, my new idea was that I would film the actors from the rape chase scene acting in a new 'fake' film. This meant getting Alex and Richard acting in a fake film within my film opening. The fake film within my film opening is the same scene as the very first scene of my actual film opening but without the rape.

Instead, Richard and Alex are acting the roles of killers, not rapists. They also use the same paper bag which was used when they raped the girl, within this fake film. Alex puts the bag over another girl's head (Adel) in this fake film and Richard puts a knife around her neck.

On the 31st of January, all the media students in year 11, 12 and 13 and the actors for their productions went to Centre de Jeunesse Marienthal, rue de Keispelt, L-7411 Marienthal. We all had an opportunity to film with a proper green screen.

Now, the name has changed from the Party Scene to the Green Screen Abduction Scene.
Since the Party Scene has changed entirely, the casting has also changed. Richard still remains in this scene, Adel Aitey is in this scene instead of Aubrey and Simon Svensson is taking the role of Alex because Alex couldn't come to the green screen studio for filming the Green Screen Abduction Scene.
