Thoughts On Some Past AS Media Coursework

2016 AS
Students' AS blogs:

I really like the non-diegetic sound used in this film opening, it really sets the tone and connotes the genre of horror. I like how the 'scream queen' is brunette and wearing unrevealing clothing instead of the stereotypical busty blonde.

I like the whole title sequence at the start, how there is use of fun diegetic titles to connote the genre, which can be denoted as made of toothpaste, cereal letters, colouring pens, lipstick and gummy bears etc.

The Brief

Preliminary exercise: Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Main task: the titles and opening of a new fiction film, to last a maximum of two minutes.
All video and audio material must be original, produced by the candidate(s), with the exception of music or audio effects from a copyright-free source

Welcome To My Blog

Hi there! My name is Evie Gibbons and this is the blog tracking my film opening production for AS Media Coursework. This is a re-submission of work started in September 2016. I have kept many of the original dates, but substantially revised posts; especially adding material on audience, genre and within the evaluation questions. Here is a link to my old AS Media Blog if you are interested in having a look.

I love all kinds of media such as films, music videos and TV programs. I also love music and all forms of art such as theatre, poetry, songwriting, fine art, design, visual aesthetics, visual storytelling etc; because of this, I would like to study graphic design or film production at university.
